Title: Deputy Election Commissioner

Description/Duties:

Assist the Election Commissioner in setting and meeting mandated deadlines in the following areas:  annual City census, street listing publication, local and state elections, presidential elections, campaign finance reporting, certification of nomination papers, petitions and clean election certificates, supervise office staff to ensure all priorities and deadlines are met.  Assist Election Commissioner to plan, control, and regulate the department budget and to keep accurate record of departmental expenditure.  Under the direction of the Commissioner prepare for elections, to include the staffing of polling places and the training of poll workers, maintenance and preparation of voting machines, and creating ballot lists and ballots.  Oversee health care facility voting.  Under direction of the Commissioner, oversee advertisements to be placed in newspapers, etc., regarding voter registration, call to election, etc.  Assist Commissioner in addressing challenges to voters, answering queries from poll workers, making determinations on an individual’s right to vote and gathering and tabulating election results at the close of polls while directing staff and assisting the public and the press.

Requirements:

Must be a registered Republician.

 

Must have a High School Diploma and minimum of five years experience in office management and supervision; or an associates degree and three years office experience, or equivalent.

 

Ability to interpret public election laws and procedures prescribed by the City Charter, The Mass. General Laws, and the U.S. Constitution.

 

Knowledge of office procedures such as billing and departmental expenditures.

 

Knowledge of campaign finance reports and all aspects of absentee voting.

 

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to be trained in MUNIS.

 

Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to deal with several detailed matters at the same time.

 

Must be able to work overtime including weekends and holidays, if needed.

 

Must possess a valid Class D drivers license.

 

Ability to interact well with the general public.

Salary: $55,259.88 per year paid weekly at $1062.69
Hours per Week: Full Time 40 hours per week
