CITY HYDRANT FLUSHING PROGRAMS ONGOING THIS SUMMER
Fire Department, DPW Conducting Annual Hydrant Flushing Programs Citywide; Check City Website for Updates and Info for Your Neighborhood
SOMERVILLE - In addition to the ongoing annual hydrant
flushing currently being conducted citywide by the Department of Public Works,
the Somerville Fire Department will begin their annual inspection of all fire
hydrants on Monday, August 6th, and conclude on Saturday, August 18th. These procedures require flushing water from
all hydrants, as well as mechanical checks by the Fire Department.
Hydrant flushing will be conducted as follows:

- August 6th - August 18th

Mondays-Saturdays, 9:00am - 4:00pm
- If
necessary, 6:15pm - 8:15pm
- July - November

Monday evenings (11:00pm) - Tuesday mornings
(7:00am)

Neighborhoods will be notified as the program
affects your neighborhood; Affected streets always listed on www.somervillema.gov and on the City of
Somerville and 311 Facebook pages.
During hydrant flushing, water may appear rusty however it is safe to drink. It is advised that residents and businesses
experiencing rusty water run it until it is clear. If rust stains appear on wet laundry, do not place clothing into a dryer, and
contact the City of Somerville for a bottle of rust remover by calling 311.
